The need for a children’s playground in the township of Kinglake was evident
....................... and so our journey began

In 1998 contact was made with the Murrindindi Shire Council to look at a way we could obtain some play equipment for the youth of Kinglake. After a public meeting a working group was formed to identify land options and develop a concept.

Friends of Bollygum Park formed in 1999 raising support and awareness of the project.

During a Parks & Leisure Sports & Recreation Victoria Innovative Play seminar, the seed of imagination was sown. The Bollygum book was identified as being very much like Kinglake and its characters were our very own native animals that live in Kinglake.

Friends of Bollygum Park Inc became Incorporated on 26th October 1999 and continues to be the fundraising working group for the development of the Bollygum Adventure Playground.

In 2005 Murrindindi Shire Council passed a resolution that two and a half acres of public open space donated to the community by the Thomson family could be used for the development of an Adventure Playground. The reserve is to be known as 'BOLLYGUM PARK RESERVE..

A Committee of Management was formed to oversee the development of the reserve at 40 Whittlesea-Kinglake Road, Kinglake under a Deed of Delegation of Council’s powers and function to a Committee of Management pursuant to provisions of Section 86 of the Local Government Act 1989.

Since that time, Mary Jeavons Landscape Architects were commissioned to produce a Master Plan for the site, a Marketing Feasibility Study has been completed and the community has endorsed the concept through the Community Building Initiative (CBI) process as being a high priority project.

The Bollygum Park Reserve Committee of Management are:
currently meeting with funding bodies
preparing grant applications
obtaining quotes for the various components of the development
continuing to engage the community and fundraise to further the development
.

Community involvement is integral to this project,
